A twilight sportfishing yacht at a quiet marina. Concept rendering.

Campaign plan · Concept

The night is the product. Help us start it.

This is the Kickstarter campaign we would run. It is the plan, not a live campaign. There is no Kickstarter.com page to pledge on yet.

Goal: $________

Length: ________ (30 days suggested)

City: ________ (Delaware / Mid-Atlantic)

Funding: All or nothing. If this does not hit, nobody is charged.

Note. The goal stays open until we pick the number. This money is for start costs, not the hull. This page is not a live campaign.

This page is the campaign we would run. It is not live. If you want to hear when it is real, leave a note.

The hook

We want six people to take the whole boat for the night, sleep in private cabins, and fish in the morning. Not a bunk on a head boat. Not a hotel that happens to float.

The night is the product. Fishing is included. Themed nights are extras you add if you want them.

We do not own a boat. We do not have dates you can book. This page is the ask for the start, not the keys.

We are building this together. One of the founders is not putting cash in. This campaign is how friends and strangers can back the first mile.

What Marlaina is

Marlaina is a whole-boat overnight on the Mid-Atlantic.

  • The whole boat. One group. Six guests.
  • Fishing included with the stay.
  • Crew sleeps in a closed cabin of their own.
  • A hired, licensed 6-pack captain on every paying trip.

The hull we are looking at is a 2000 Buddy Davis 78 class in Fort Lauderdale. Carolina sportfish lines, mothership volume, a cockpit that still fishes. Ports in play are West Ocean City or Cape May. This hull does not fit Indian River.

Themed nights are add-ons, not the stay itself:

This is a concept. The site exists. The company paper does not. The boat is not ours.

What this money actually pays for

A Kickstarter campaign is not buying the hull. A pledge is not a down payment on that boat.

This money pays for the start:

  • Company paper. LLC, EIN, the legal work so the thing can exist.
  • Survey and sea trial on a hull we might buy. If the 78 fails, the next one.
  • First insurance quotes and first slip quotes. Real numbers, not guesses.
  • Building the real operation. The work between a concept site and a boat that can take paying guests.

The boat is the destination. This campaign is not the boat.

What this is not

  • Not a live booking. You cannot reserve a night today. There is no calendar, because there is no boat.
  • Not a live Kickstarter. There is no Kickstarter.com URL to open. This page is the plan.
  • Not a timeshare. You are not buying a week on a schedule, and you are not buying a share of a slip.
  • Not equity, unless we later say so in writing, with paper, on purpose. A Kickstarter pledge is a pledge. It is not a share of the company.
  • Not the purchase of the 78. If this funds, we can start. We still have to find a hull that surveys clean, a marina that will take it, and a captain we can hire.

If you want to help us start, this is the way. If you want a night on the water next month, this is not that.

Rewards

We list kinds of thanks, not prices. Higher rewards only make sense when the boat is real. We say that out loud so it is not a lie.

  • A thank you Your name with the people who helped us start. After the campaign, if it funds
  • The concept pack A print of the nights, and the idea on paper. After the campaign, if it funds
  • A founder dinner The founders, you, a table. When the boat is real
  • Credit toward a first night Whole boat, six guests, fishing included. When we are operating. When the boat is real
  • A named stay Or The Wedding Night. One group. The night is yours. When the boat is real

Limits, estimated delivery months, and shipping: ________

If we fund and the boat takes longer than we hope, the thank you and the concept pack still go out. The dinner, the night credit, and the named stay wait until there is a real boat and we are operating. If we cannot get there, we tell you, in plain words, and we work out the rest.

Risks

Be honest here. People can smell a gloss.

We do not own a boat. The 78 is a working hull, not a closed deal. Someone else can buy it while we are still raising.

A survey can kill a hull. Engines, structure, a bad sea trial. Then that boat is off the table and we look again.

Licenses. Paying guests need a licensed captain. We hire a licensed 6-pack captain on paying trips. If we cannot hire one, we cannot run.

A marina can say no. West Ocean City and Cape May are the ports in play. Indian River is out for this size. A slip is not a sure thing until it is in writing.

Insurance can say no, or come in so high the math breaks.

This is a seasonal Mid-Atlantic idea. Winter is not the season.

Kickstarter is all or nothing. If we miss the goal, nobody is charged. We do not get a partial pot. You keep your money.

A funded start is not a launched charter. Paper, a clean survey, a slip, insurance, and a captain all have to land after this.

Timeline

  • Now. Concept site. The idea is on the web. This page is the campaign we would run.
  • Next. LLC and the company paper.
  • Then. Look at the 78. Survey. Sea trial. Walk if it is wrong.
  • Then. First season, if the money and the hull both work.

No month promises on this page. Dates go in only when we can defend them.

Questions we already answer

Is this a live campaign?

No. There is no Kickstarter.com URL. Leave a note if you want to hear when a real campaign exists.

Does a pledge buy the boat?

No. Money is for start costs (paper, survey, quotes, the work to stand up a company). It is not the hull.

Can I reserve a night by pledging?

No. A future night credit is a thank you for later, if we are operating. It is not a booking today.

The ask

If this sounds like a night you would want, help us start it.

When this campaign is real, pledge what you can. Tell a person who would want this. That is the whole ask.

If we hit the goal, we do the paper, we look at the hull, and we tell you what we find. If we miss, nobody is charged.

This is the plan, not a live campaign. If you want to hear when it is real, leave a note.

We are building this together.
